Hello World

Published by floridamom under Homeschool

And so begins my plunge into the world of homeschool bloggers. We are eclectic homeschoolers, sometimes unschooling for long stretches, sometimes using some structure. I am going to try and add a bit more structure in the next few months.

My son has moderate ADHD, and I think more structure will better help him with organizational skills. He also seems more grounded with a regular schedule of sorts.

Of course, I’ll never allow structure to take away our spontaneity. One of the pleasures of homeschooling for us, is being able to make last minute changes in our day.

Mythbusters in My Kitchen

Published by floridamom under Homeschool

Adam and Jamie (the Mythbusters for those who don’t know) got nuttin’ on us.

Young Scientist Club, Kit 10, Bacteria and Fungi. Yep. Comes complete with agar you mix up on your stove. One experiment is predetermined. They sent some antibiotic cream, and you put it on half of one of the petri dishes. But the kit came with two petri dishes, and you get to decide your own bacteria experiment for the second one. In all fairness to Adam and Jamie, the kit also suggested using your own saliva vs. your dog’s. But as soon as kiddo read it, he thought it would be cool to re-create the Mythbusters episode right in our own home. So far, the dog had less bacteria on his tongue.

Kitchen science? My kitchen IS the science lab.
